Spoilers Ahead!
After three long years, Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty Amazon Prime adaptation has come to an end. From the first summer, where Belly chose a Fisher brother for the first time and immediately changed her mind. To the second summer, where Belly changed her mind again. To the third summer. Where she changed. Her mind. Again.
Of course, a lot more has happened over these three seasons but for me, that’s the plot of the show.
The best part of this season has been watching Jeremiah and Belly’s relationship crash and burn. Honestly, she never should’ve accepted his I’m-sorry-for-cheating-on-you proposal, but I guess she really just wanted that beach house.
All jokes aside, I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing Adam read everyone to filth, especially Jeremiah. The soundtrack throughout the show has been insane, but this season really took the cake. I mean, Conrad’s re-introduction being Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Can’t Stop definitely was the right choice. Conrad leaving Cousins to How Did it End? was evil. Truly sick and twisted. I cried.
Since the beginning of this final season, I have been terrified about the ending. Jenny Han has been vocal about the series’ deviation from the books. However, she pulled through, and I am so glad Belly chose Conrad in the end. I think we all knew this was the only plausible ending, though.
Ultimately, I am really happy with the way the finale tied up the series’ loose ends. While I am not the biggest Jeremiah fan, I am glad he forged his own path and found happiness on his own. I also really appreciated all three of them acknowledging their mistakes and learning how to communicate.
My only real grievance with the final episode was her haircut. Then they ended with Scott Street and I cried. Again.
